Schools in Tajikistan Being Connected Up to Internet
KULOB-KHUJAND, December 19, Asia-Plus - Yesterday, December
18, international organization "Relief International"
presented new Internet-centers at Lyceum named after Somoni
in the city of Kulob and School # 40 in Kulob District of Khatlon Province, the Asia-Plus
correspondent for Kulob reported.
The centers have five computers each and the centers will
be available for schoolchildren, students and journalists.
The centers will also conduct training for school teachers
on using Internet. Taking into
account shortage of electricity in the city and the district
in autumn-winter period the center are provided with powerful
diesel generators.
An opening ceremony of Internet-center at Grammar School
# 4 was held last Wednesday, December 17, in Khujand, capital
of Sughd province in northern Tajikistan, as well. It is already
third school in northern
Tajikistan connected up to Internet within the "School
Online" program implemented by "Relief International"
and funded by the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe, the Asia-Plus
correspondent for Khujand reported. The program manager Garth
Willis told Asia-Plus that to date, an access to Internet
has been provided to 10 schools in Tajikistan. "the program
is designed for two years and besides access to Internet,
the program has provided the mentioned schools with computers",
Mr. Willis said. Next year, according to him, four other schools
in northern Sughd Province will get access to Internet.
